SUMMARY:Intention
DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition of Creative Pieces by students on the Intercalated BA in Medical Humanities at the University of Bristol \nSaturday\, 2nd June\nPeoples Republic of Stokes Croft Space\, Jamaica Street\n10.30 am to 5 pm \nEach year the University of Bristol offers medical students the opportunity to pause their studies and gain an intercalated BA in medical humanities. Joining English and Philosophy students\, these medical students are able to explore some of the wider issues around healthcare with a particular emphasis placed on arts-based inquiry. \nThis exhibition is built around a range of creative pieces from the students which highlight the role of the arts in extending perceptions around embodiment and alternative ways of knowing and connecting. The curation of diverse works explores particular questions around meaning-making within a collectively agreed theme of ‘Intention’. The works are supplemented by reports of students’ experiences in learning about the role that music\, art and theatre may play in therapy\, and also how the arts contribute to well-being and self-knowledge within the medical community. \nThe exhibition also includes reflections on some of the events which form a part of the students’ learning\, such as the annual Medicine Unboxed conference in Cheltenham\, a visit to the Jenner Museum\, Berkeley\, and a seminar with Sam Gugliani (author of Histories).
