SUMMARY:People's Art Fair: Autumn Show
DESCRIPTION:Opening night: Thursday 16 Sep\, 6-9pm\nExhibition open daily: 12-6pm\, Fri 17 – Sun 26 Sep\nFREE ENTRY \nThe People’s Art Fair (PAF) is a collaborative group exhibition devised and hosted by the PRSC and open to all artists. The fair follows the principal that together we are greater than the sum of our parts\, and demonstrates that bringing together artists involved in individual creative practice produces something unique and special. Embodying the ethos of collective action\, the artists help to hang\, manage and promote the show together. We want to break down barriers to the art world and challenge the elitism and sense of exclusivity that pervades many gallery shows. PAF attempts to level the playing field with no entry fee (for artists or visitors) and an open invitation to everyone to take part\, offering a platform to all the talented people out there no matter their medium. \nOur last PAF ran online in December 2020 and featured over 40 artists\, including well established professionals\, young people exhibiting their art for the first time\, a homeless artist and everyone in between. This time we are coming back big with the fair running over ten days and featuring art markets over both weekends plus a range of other creative activities including a music jam\, a poetry open mic\, collage workshop\, and the first ever performance of the People’s Theatre. \n\nMake Music — Create a Collage — Create a Cork Creature — Paint a Domino \nThu 16 Sep\, 6-9pm: Exhibition opening night\nFri 17 Sep\, 7-11pm: The People’s Jam Session\, hosted by The Suspicious Jazz Rollups (£4 suggested donation OTD)\nSat 18 Sep\, 12-6pm: Art Market\, with drop in workshops for Faerie Cork Creatures 1-4pm\, and Domino Painting 12-6pm\nSun 19 Sep\, 12-6pm: Art Market\, with drop in Domino Painting 12-6pm\nWed 22 Sep\, 6-7.30pm: Cork Creatures Workshop with ZamZam (£5 – book here)\nThu 23 Sep\, 7-11pm: The People’s Poetry\, spoken word & open mic curated by Emma Ako (£4 suggested donation OTD)\nFri 24 Sep\, 7-11pm: The People’s Theatre\, bringing irreverence back to the stage\nSat 25 Sep\, 12-6pm: Art Market\, with drop in Octopus Odyssey Collage Club 1-4pm\nSun 26 Sep\, 12-6pm: Art Market\, with drop in Domino Painting 12-6pm. SUMMARY:Creative Workshop with Gemma Lawrence
DESCRIPTION:* This is a zoom event * \nThis weekend marks the first birthday of the People’s Art Fair\, but as the sixth art fair scheduled to mark this important anniversary has been thwarted by Covid\, we decided to bring you an activity run on the same principles of creativity\, inclusion and fun to mark this important date. \nThis online session will be a workshop for people to expand their creativity and test out new bounds from within their own homes; Gemma will be sharing short tasks exploring colour psychology\, collaging with objects\, and filling in the gaps on images to really show how your imagination works when it’s given no limitations. \nThese are all tasks which can be found inside Creative Block – a book encouraging everyone to take a few moments and test out their creative flare. Gemma will be discussing the book and the lessons it hopes to teach whilst you have a go at some fun and artistic tasks. \nDetails\nThis event will be hosted on zoom. Participans will recieve a zoom link from the organisers in advance of the event.\nCapacity is limitless – whoever wants to join in!\nGemma will supply images to print at home\, for the ‘fill in the gaps’ task.\nThe materials are minimal – just a pencil\, colouring pencils if you have them and paper\, and any objects you find around the house to work with. There are no age limits – these tasks are ones which can be completed by young children all the way up to old grown ups – they can choose how simple or complex they want to be and Gemma will discuss the tasks in context for all ages.\n\nThe workshop is free\, but please consider making a donation! \nBook onto this workshop\nError: Contact form not found.

I work very spontaneously\, regularly changing my palette and experimenting with different processes. I use acrylic paint and sometimes mixed media to create a rich surface texture with many layers\, using pattern and contrast to add depth and to lead the eye across the canvas. Colour is paramount\, with many different techniques contributing to my creative process. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Beautiful Things in Foreign Lands\n Tiny tales of adventure in a sun-soaked technicolour dreamland. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Britta Glass Art\n Brittany has just moved into one of the PRSC artist studios. His artistic influences are as varied as his techniques ranging from\, to comic book art to Art Deco. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Gazu\n I’m Gazu\, an illustrator\, artworker\, and graphic designer mostly interested in people in my visual arts. My work is often based on the world around me\, real life events and how they effect me as a i process them\, often regarding political events or social injustices\, I try to be all inclusive with my work and cover issues that dont just affect me directly but the collective as a whole. My work has been described as surrealist and psychedelic\, I feel bright colours make my sometimes hard to swallow themes easier to digest and allow them to retain appeal.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kes Draws Fights\n I draw protests\, fights\, riots and battles out of interest in the subject matter and because I love the chaos of bodies flying about all over the place. Protests and riots allow me to draw subject matter that I am passionate about and the historic battles allow me to indulge my interest in the past. I hope to continue my protest and riots of Bristol series with a new piece every year.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lee Ellis\n Lockdown lino cuts from Lee Ellis. Lee Ellis is a British multi-media artist based in Bristol. His insatiable desire to create brings him to embrace different artistic mediums\, from printmaking to drawing and painting. From an early age he’s been scrawling images on any form canvas he can get his grubby paint stained paws on. His canvasses and street work are heavily influenced by a long list of introverted musings to extensively long to mention. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Object...\n Object… is a mixed media artist\, who’s work encompases tiny altered collage books\, and large-scale murals. Found ideas\, images and objects are combined with original elements\, to create new narratives and expressions. They try in their work to combine the personal with the political\, and intuition with the cerebral… \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Phil Constable\n Phil Constable is an artist and printmaker. Empty high-rise flats\, a path in the woods and family photographs\, all serve as subjects that comment on the economic and structural climate\, reflecting the changing surrounding landscape. Layering images via screen print\, utilising half-tone photography\, symbols\, mark making with gold and silver gilding on various surfaces including paper\, board\, and glass. Work expands from site-specific installations in New York to moving image light installations in London. He currently lives in Cheshire and works in his studio that was previously a medical practice. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Rocio E Bucheli\n My work includes oil and encaustic paintings. In contrast I also make scrolls that are ink drawings on rice paper. I am a Colombian British artist. In my work there is a confrontation of cultures and this is what I celebrate with art and faith\, with imaginary landscapes and figures that comes from nature. In my work you will be able to perceive a contrast of colours in the paintings and a monochrome style in the scrolls\, so you can decide what to pick according to you taste. The scrolls can be seen as as new interpretation and approach to oriental works. They are large enough to bring a tranquil atmosphere to any space. Also Small encaustic paintings. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Zamzam\n Zamzam (Zz) is a Bristol-based artist with a background creating murals\, sets\, signs and Illustration. Her work explores her love for nature\, movement\, mythology and the otherworldly – through striking and playful fantastical styles. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Zlyzab\n DIY punk illustrations and stickers \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Anita Lanzetta \n Anita explores a wide range of art disciplines. Her artistic roots are based in the fashion industry which continues to influence her use of textiles and mixed media. During her time at UWE she has focused on the practice of painting\, with influences from Renaissance\, Baroque and Abstract Expressionist art. Anita explores the inner shapes of the human being and its perception of feelings:\nShe is interested in identity\, sexuality\, self consciousness and awareness\, and the way us humans deal with our personalities and egos. The representations of these human features is indicated in her use of colours\, exploring the relationships of specific colours when placed next to others. Anita also uses patterns and shapes that translate feelings and emotions\, creating a connection between the colours she uses and how we respond to the flow they create. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Badgrl Ruru\n Ru’s Nudes\, known as @badgrl.ruru on social media sites\, is a campaign to promote the realistic\, honest and destigmatised representation of womxn’s bodies in art form\, to reflect the forms of art they truly are. It began as a body positivity and empowerment movement which has grown and developed into an angry fight against the impermissibility of female sexuality and the policing of womxn’s bodies. This was sparked by both the policing of my artwork by instagram and the overwhelmingly positive response to my pieces of art. I drew a link between the reaction to the content I was creating and the current political context and contemporary debates such as around womxn’s rights\, transgender rights and abortion law. Clearly\, this is a conversation that needs to be had. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bev Milward\n I have been working in a form of encaustic collage since December 2019. I enjoy the way that detail can be built up quickly using paper and coloured wax. I work on boards found on the streets\, using spray paint\, images found in old books\, beeswax\, coloured wax and oil pastels exploring various techniques. Some boards are blank to start with others have existing paint and textures which I incorporate. I enjoy fashioning an idea or a fantasy out of objects that already exist. During the restrictions of the Covid-19 lockdown it has been an invaluable means of expression. Over time I hope\, like my ceramics\, they will build to become a narrative of this unprecedented time in all of our lives. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Cassidy Grace\n Photographer Cassidy Grace will be showcasing black & white documentary photography\, focusing on some political issues that people in the UK have faced over the last 5 years. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Charlotte Harris\n * FIRST CHANCE TO SEE *Charlotte is a new young talet\, spotted by PRSC during a graffiti skills couse with Creative Youth Network\, and invited to bring something new to this exhibition. Her artwork above combines poetry\, painting and stencil techniques\, to explore an emotional response to the virus. We expect great things from this young lady. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dan Petley\n Dan makes paintings and other objects to be displayed or worn as relics\, exploring the theme of art pieces as objects with divine power by playfully meditating on their devolved roles as public and private property. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Domino Project\n A collaborative domino painting project brought to you by the people behind the Brick project\, and the recent Moon Temple revamp. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Extempore Art\n My art is expressive unplanned and intuitive which explores themes such as belonging and identity\, what it means to be human. Using the concepts such as the feeling of being an alien\, the thoughts of the vast cosmos\, nature and our place within the universe or a lone wolf (plus they’re fun to paint)\, I paint textured colourful energetic acrylic paintings. I love the physicality of painting and it being its own form of communication to better understand myself and others\, connecting to community where ever possible \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Georgie\n Georgie is an artist and maker with an interesting eye\, interesting self and something to say about life. Known for her bold\, political and colourful prints and beautiful large- scale murals\, she is out making art in the world. There\, her love of creating is combined with a joy for performing that shines through everything she touches. With representation at the Westbank in London\, It’s All 2 Much Gallery and Upfest Galleries in Bristol\, her work is a force to be reckoned with. Screen prints are her most recent expression of choice and she is known for works of satire and humour. She is keen to share these observations on life\, love and politics. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hola\n Using the idiom of illustration and being inspired by contemporary art\, I explore forms from nature in my work.\nUsing a variety of media\, such as paint and sculpture\, my work often focuses on the theme of nature and my surroundings. Based in Bristol\, I have put on exhibitions as part of the group ‘Aliens of the Art World’\, as well as working at a Bristol Pride event doing live painting for the Bitch Please! Group.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kay\n * FIRST CHANCE TO SEE *Kay is a new young talent\, spotted by PRSC during a graffiti skills course with Creative Youth Network\, and invited to create something fresh for this exhibition. We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Klaudia Guzak \n A Hungarian artist from Slovakia\, living in Bristol.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lazulimoon\n Residing as a maker and thinker in Bristol\, UK\, and working under the name Lazulimoon\, Lola Ives utilizes creative arts as a way to explore the world around her\, to find a common ground to present the ideas which she forms to others. Art is a powerful language that she is continuously learning to communicate with. To do so\, Lola works with the following disciplines; public art installation\, creative writing\, collage\, drawing\, performance\, and mixed media textiles sculpture. Lola’s current practice is focused conceptually on exploring the transformation of the Earth and humanity through a variety of projects. Lola’s intention is to create visual and poetic tools that encourage the viewer or participant to think deeply about the current shift in consciousness taking place. Aiming to harness the power of thought\, imagination\, and manifestation to inspire and create personal\, collective\, and planetary transformation. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lisa Travers\n Lisa Travers is a neurodiverse mixed media artist based in Bristol. Her works are heavily influenced by pattern and geometry and predominantly made from materials destined for landfill. They explore issues relevant to Lisa’s life such as feminism\, health\, social and environmental issues. Her three-dimensional collages resemble kaleidoscopes\, her current obsession. These multi layered pieces are all painstakingly hand cut using optical surgery scissors and knives. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lyndsay Grant-Muller\n These are one-off Cyanotypes that capture the detail of natural forms collected and stuffed up my sleeves on my morning jogs along the Thames and Severn Canal. The process involves placing objects on sensitised paper in the sun\, some exposures range from twenty minutes to three days. Each one varies depending on the intensity and angle of the sun on the sky. Scientist\, Sir John Herschel\, originally pioneered the process in 1842\, to reproduce diagrams and later went on to inspire Anna Atkins in recording her botanical forms. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mark Skelton\n Artist\, workshop leader and community activist\, Mark uses clay\, fabric\, paper paint and whatever other materials take his fancy to create wonderfully textured works of art. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mez\n I paint in all sorts of mediums oil ink acrylic… In an expressionist style I guess. But I’m just playing around with styles at the moment\, using wood and things I find on the streets. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Octopus Odyssey\n Octopus Odyssey is a linguist and multi-disciplinary artist based in Bristol. Her work spans between visual arts\, audio installations\, and physical theatre/clowning performances. Common themes amongst her work include; mental health\, art as an explorative and healing tool\, as well as social and environmental activism. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Oshii\n Oshii works with painting and collage techniques to produce bright\, bold canvases. His striking work explores urgent social themes such as race\, fatherhood and prejudice. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Raluca Bobis\n Raluca Bobis is an artist inspired by the texture\, shapes and colors of nature\, transforming them into surreal illustrations and sculptures. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Stella Macarthur\n A Bristol based artist working on paintings\, costume and set design\, Stella is one of a number of artists joining the People’s Art Fair for the first time. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Stokes Croft China\n Beautiful original artwork created by talented arrists of the Stokes Croft China workshop. Combining vintage print with a modern aesthetic and flavouring the whole with a political wit\, Stokes croft China presents peculair china for a peculiar society.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Zed in the Clouds\n My name is Zed in the Clouds\, I’m a multi-disciplinary artist working in a lot of different mediums. I specialise in murals but I also do a lot of illustrative/design-led projects alongside making and selling my own work. My influences are eclectic to say the least but I would definitely consider hip-hop culture to be the most significant source of inspiration for my work/visual language. I also love old school cartoons/comics Like Asterix\, Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes. I am available for commissioned work in a variety of formats so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have an idea you would like me to bring to life!

SUMMARY:The People's Art Fair
DESCRIPTION:The People’s Art Fair is back!\nHead on down to The Space at PRSC to sample art of all flavours from a wide range of local artists. \n\nOpening night: Friday 11th September 6 – 9pm.\nOpen 12 – 6pm daily from Saturday 12th through to Sunday 20th September.\nLate opening until 9pm Thursday 17th September.\n\nTwenty-five diverse and talented artists will be showing off their work at the People’s Art Fair\, featuring everything from landscape painting to metal sculpture\, photography to sticker art. \nThey are: Brick Project\, Dan Petley\, Gabrielle Ruffle\, Wistful Horizons\, Colin Moody\, Lisa Travers\, Beatriz Leonardo\, Oshii\, Naomi Clarke\, Guy Radcliffe\, Zlyzab\, Slawek Rzewuski\, Beautiful Things In Foreign Lands\, Object…\, Daniel Jones\, Bev Milward\, Maryem Meddeb\, Disphoria Art\, Black Rose Arts\, Shane Meszaros\, Mark Skelton\, Merran Coleman and Zamzam. \n*Update 9/9/20 Thanks to the confused messaging coming from our bloody government it is unclear whether we will be allowed to let more than six people at a time into the Space from Monday onwards. That notwithstanding we continue to move ahead with the plans to open the Peoples Art Fair on Friday.\nWe anticipate that the new law will limit groups of more than 6 people being able to enter the show together\, but should not reduce our overall capacity (already limited to 25 for social distancing purposes). As soon as we have clarity on our legal status\, we will act accordingly. In the worst case scenario we will have to only allow 6 people into the show at a time.\nCome down and paint a domino with the Brick Project\, the people behind the recent colourful rennovation of the Moon Temple. Workshop. Domino Painting: 12-4pm Sat 12th\, Sun 13th\, Tues 15th\, Sat 19th and Sun 20th. \n \nGabrielle Ruffles is a landscape painter\, using oils and chalk pastels. Her paintings are based on snapshots of the city\, and also about light\, night time\, bad weather conditions\, rain and grey skies. \n  \n\nBeatriz Leonardo a multi-media Portuguese artist currently residing in Bristol. Her practice ranges from illustration and printmaking\, to motion\, web and graphic design work. Her work is inspired by or directly represents mythology\, folklore\, religion\, literature and allegories. Due to the supernatural essence of these subjects\, the illustrations take on a somewhat surrealist approach\, while maintaining figurative and symbolic elements\, with a lot of references to the natural world. \n  \n \nObject… is a mixed media artist\, who’s work encompases tiny altered collage books\, and large-scale murals. Found ideas\, images and objects are combined with original elements\, to create new narratives and expressions. They try in their work to combine the personal with the political\, and intuition with the cerebral… \n  \n  \n Bev Millward is a ceramicist and fine artist working in mixed media and found objects. This piece: CvDMMXX  was made during the transition from usual daily life to just before lockdown of March 2020. Read from left to right in the distance are the towers of the old establishment\, a dinosaur swims below and microscopic water bears floating in the sky. On an island of microscopic organisms stands the lady from the margins with her flying penis looking with longing to an island where a Blemmyes stands looking back at her. Further to the right past the shells and the goose barnacle a mythical medieval Bishop fish explains something to neanderthal man beneath a pill bug moon. Up ahead are the dark fears. \n \n  \nOshii uses paint\, paste up and collage techniques to create his meditations on masculinity and colour. \n  \n  \n  \n\nGuy Radcliffe paints Bristol Harbour scenes\, Cornish Coastal views and Seascapes. Its an expressive style using acrylics or oils to capture the vibrancy and energy of the painted views. He uses a mixture of brushwork and palette knife. Growing up in Cornwall Guy was inspired by the rugged coastline and beautiful village scenes. He has also lived in Bristol which has some stunning views and an inspiring mix of industrial and nautical aspects of the Bristol harbourside. \n  \n \n  \nSlawek Rzewuski is  a photographer who recently emigrated from Poland to Bristo. He has been taking photos of protests and other local community events in Bristol over the past two years. \n  \n  \n \n  \nLisa Travers works in paint\, paper sculpture and ceramics. Alongside her beautiful 3d desgns\, Lisa will be showing some photographs from her Sole Destroying project – recording abandoned shoes in the street. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nDan Petley makes paintings and other objects  to be displayed or worn as relics\, exploring the theme of art pieces as objects with divine power by playfully meditating on their devolved roles as public and private property. \n \n  \n  \nFamed Bristol street photographer Colin Moody is collecting responses to the fall which happened during a Black Lives Matter protest. \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nZlyzab is a DIY punk artist. She does stickers. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nDisphoria Art\nHousecat: I have always loved cats for their mixture of cute affection and wild savagery. One thing I feel is detestable\, is to keep cats as house cats\, kept indoors permanently. It seems to be a particularly cruel thing to do to an animal that exults in its cat-world life of hunting\, fighting and mating\, forcing it to stay tamed into human dimensions of enforced 24 hour cuteness. I have a friend who’s neighbour has a house cat\, and I feel sorry to see it staring sadly and fearfully out of the window when I visit the next house. It seems very sad that if the door was open\, the cat probably would be too scared and overwhelmed by the outside world to venture out.\nThis piece was created during the beginning of Lockdown in March 2020\, after the realisation that we are all house cats now. Gone are those days of feral strutting from bar to club on Saturday nights… gone is the search for love in the world outside. We remain tamed and fearful of the outside world.\nThe figure in the window looks out with the same sad expression as the house cat I would see. She also has the chat App filter that places cartoon cat parts on her face\, because facetime is the closest we can get to human contact during lockdown. The face was based on the K-pop star Lisa\, who stands for glamour and excitement\, now limited and confined to four small walls. \n  \n \n  \nBeautiful Things in Foreign Lands offers tiny tales of adventure in a sun-soaked technicolour dreamland photos\, cards\, magnets\, badges\, print design. \n  \n  \nPlease note:\n– for obvious reasons capacity is limited to 25 people at a time\n– the law currently requires that people to wear a face covering when visiting art galleries or other indoor cultural spaces. \n  \n
