SUMMARY:An Evening in Solidarity: Palestinian Relief
DESCRIPTION:TicketsHosted in partnership with Bristol Palestine Museum and Bristol Solidarity Cafe\, this fundraiser directly supports Ibrahim\, his family\, and their vital relief efforts through Al Nasser Charitable Society. Join us on February 8th as art\, music\, and community come together in aid of Palestinian families displaced by the ongoing crisis in Gaza. \nAbout the Cause \nAl Nasser Charitable (النَّاصر- ‘The Helper’) was founded in 2021 by our friend Ibrahim Raida during the Israeli attacks on Gaza\, with the aim of delivering urgent aid to those affected. This fundraiser directly supports Ibrahim\, his displaced family\, and their vital work through the charity. \nIbrahim and his family were displaced from Gaza City to Rafah\, along with over a million others. As Executive Director of Al Nasser Charitable\, Ibrahim leads efforts to provide essential support\, including food parcels\, health kits\, drinking water\, tent camps\, and hot meals for displaced communities. All proceeds will help those who have had their homes detroyed\, providing them with essential support as they continue to live in tents while working to rebuild their lives. \nWhat to Expect: \nArt & Exhibitions\nGuests are invited to immerse themselves in the local art and exhibitions provided by South West England’s most promising young artists. Silent bidding will run throughout the evening and an open auction for art pieces will be carried out at 9:00pm – the highest of which will be donated directly to Ibrahim and his family. \nPoetry\nRiveting poetry set to bring chills and set heart ablaze is to be expected from this event. With Sonder Spoken Word on board to asssist in curation and ensure the most poignant individuals are represented here\, there’s no doubt the passions will be ignited through this rhythmic contribution. \nLive Entertainment\nWe’re very lucky and honoured to have some of the best in Bristol up and coming talent join us in provining a cascade of soothing melodies to soothe the evening and ease our transitions between the showcases which this evening will be graced with. From indie-folk artists to spoken word performances\, the soundtrack of the evening promises to be one which will soothe the soul. \nFood by Bristol Solidarity Cafe. \nLet’s come together to make a direct contribution as we recognise the power of art\, culture\, and collective action.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: 'Is Zero Suicide Achievable?'
DESCRIPTION:Shine On is a campaign all about working together to prevent suicide. Via a programme of activities\, talks\, events and other initiatives\, we hope to bring people together to help increase understanding about the complex issue of suicide and mental health. \n‘Zero Suicide’ is an aim; an aim to reduce the rate of suicide to zero. This goal has been pursued in a number of places worldwide\, with work taking place across communities and organisations to collaboratively tackle suicide and deliver a reduction in suicide rates. In some places\, at times\, a rate of zero suicides has been successfully achieved. This panel discussion will explore the concept of zero suicide and whether we can\, or should\, seek to achieve this goal. Members of the panel will include people with lived experience of mental health\, and mental health professionals. \nPlease note: this panel discussion will be chaired by a trained facilitator with their own lived experience of being bereaved by suicide. It is inevitable that there is likely to be discussion of potentially traumatic topics\, including bereavement\, suicide and self-harm. Please be aware of this if you are planning on attending. \nEntry is FREE but please register your space here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shine-on-panel-discussion-is-zero-suicide-achievable-bristol-tickets-79694348943

SUMMARY:Raise The Roof
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition aims to use art as a way to represent how Bristol’s changing landscape highlights the deepening housing crisis. \nMore than 11\,000 people are on the waiting list for a council house in Bristol alone. This figure is made even more shocking by the fact that over 1\,000 homes lie empty. Average house prices approach £300\,000 and average rents exceed £1\,000 a month. This is a devastatingly harsh reality for around 120 people\, who sleep rough every night in our city and the problem will only deepen with a lack of social housing being built to meet the growing need. In times of austerity\, those most in need are facing the brunt of the crisis. Bristol’s landscape is radially changing and we are seeing a wave of development take place across the city that sadly lack much needed affordable and social housing. This exhibition is a chance for artists to create work in response to these issues and through highlighting them\, we aim to raise awareness\, share knowledge and engage people in current housing campaigns. \nWorking alongside ACORN\, a local community based union of working class people\, artists have used their direct action campaigns as inspiration for the work they have produced. Join us for an evening where creative talent merges with the fight for social change. \nFacebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1933601910084725/ \nBuy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/raise-the-roof-bristol-exhibition-fundraiser-tickets-60707316217 \nSee more about Acorn here: https://acorntheunion.org.uk/
