I started creating art to help me deal with physical and mental illness. My work ranges from symbols/diagrams to surreal creatures\, portraits and more chaotic mashups of different images\, text and logos. I often aim to cover thought provoking themes and also infuse elements of humor and irony at the same time. A lot of my pieces are like continual diary entries and mini streams of consciousness. I have recently moved into more of an abstract style of painting\, whilst still retaining my signature elements and symbols within my works.” \nmaxmiddlewood.com // @maxmiddlewood \nMERNY\nMerny makes paintings and murals inspired by human interactions\, online memes\, diagrams and safety posters. He predominantly works in pencil and watercolours in his studio and uses spray paint and rollers when working on the street. Alongside his painting practice\, he produces small runs of esoteric garments and bags. \nThe varied output of Merny’s saturated and hilarious watercolours have been described as unique\, vibrant and evocative. Tainted with dark humour and often laden with sarcasm\, his work is relatable to all kinds of people\, and he is unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths about our times both on the street and in his studio. \nmernywernz.com // shop // @mernywernz \nSepr\nBorn and bred in Bristol\, UK\, Sepr is a prolific character based artist whose work can be seen in abundance all over the streets of Bristol and the UK. SUMMARY:The Struggle Continues
DESCRIPTION:Opening party: Thu 17 Aug\, 18:00 – 21:00\nOpen daily: Fri 18 – Mon 28 Aug\, 12:00 – 18:00\nClosing party: Mon 28 Aug\, 18:00 – 21:00\nThis collaborative exhibition celebrates the success of 1963’s Bristol Bus Boycott\, alongside other tales of political struggle in Bristol and beyond. Artwork and stories from local artists\, community members\, charities\, and campaign groups examine where we have come from and where we are heading. \nThe Bristol Bus Boycott was a critical moment in the history of race relations and civil rights in the UK. However\, celebrations of this historic victory should not encourage a sense of complacency. The struggles for justice and equality\, and the battles of communities against oppressive authorities are ongoing\, and only by continuing the work of those that went before can we protect these rights of generations to come. \nThis exhibition is a reminder that we stand on the shoulders of giants\, that struggles can take decades\, and the fight for civil rights and equality is not over. \nDo you have a personal archive\, artworks or stories relating to the Bristol Bus Boycott\, the 1980s St Pauls uprisings\, Countering Colston\, Occupy\, BLM\, housing struggles in Bristol\, or the Kill The Bill protests and court cases?\nWould you be interested in lending them to this community exhibition? We’re not just looking for documentation of the headline grabbing events\, but the longer campaigns and work that went on before and after the cameras and journalists came. \nGet in contact via email hidden; JavaScript is required with an outline of what you’d like to contribute\, or bring them along to the show to add in real time! \nThe Struggle Continues is a collaboration between the PRSC\, @curiosity_unltd\, @oshiiblklgt\, and many other local artists and activists. Many thanks to Unite the Union for their support. \n\nThe Struggle Continues // Fri 18 - Mon 28 August // Open 12:00 - 18:00 daily\nThis collaborative exhibition celebrates the success of 1963's Bristol Bus Boycott\, alongside other tales of political struggle in Bristol and beyond. SUMMARY:People's Art Fair: Opening Night
DESCRIPTION:Opening night: Thursday 30 March\, 6-9pm\nExhibition open daily: 12-6pm\, Friday 31 March – Sunday 9 April\nFREE ENTRY \nBe among the first to see all the amazing artwork on offer\, unleash your inner artist with some fun & easy creative activities\, and have a drink while you browse\, schmooze\, and enjoy the sweet sounds of Brainbeau. \nThe People’s Art Fair\, an open group exhibition curated by the PRSC\, is founded on the principle that together we are greater than the sum of our parts. Acting as a celebration of culture and expressive art\, the People’s Art Fair is open to artists\, makers\, photographers\, painters\, sculptors and creatives of all shapes and flavours. We know art isn’t just paintings hanging on walls\, so the People’s Art Fair often includes an art fair\, live music jam sessions\, poetry open mic\, and all sorts of creative workshops and activities. \n\nPeople's Art Fair: Spring // Friday 31 March - Sunday 9 April 2023\nThe People's Art Fair (PAF) is a ten day long cultural festival providing a platform for visual artists\, poets\, musicians and workshop leaders to show off their talents. PAF is kept free for artists to take part in\, and all ticketed events apply the principle 'no one turned away through lack of funds'.  PAF is a natural extension of our work to break down barriers and increase inclusion and voice\, and is a direct challenge to the exclusionary idea that 'real art’ is exclusive and only created by\, and relevant to a small cultured\, wealthy elite. PAF promotes creative cultural practice as an essential tool for people to challenge or highlight social injustice and to galvanise change.\n\nThroughout the fair we collaborate with local social-minded creatives to offer workshops; a poetry open mic; and a music jam session\, inviting everyone to share and celebrate their talents during the fair. The net result is a visually diverse and culturally rich event featuring hundreds of artworks from over 70 artists; and the emergence of a confident\, mutually supportive creative community that is joyful to be part of.\n\n Browse the People's Art Fair: Spring Exhibition online\n \nPeople’s Art Fair: Opening NightJoin us for the opening night of the People's Art Fair - be among the first to see all the amazing artwork on offer\, access your inner artist with some fun & easy creative activities\, and have a drink while you browse\, schmooze & enjoy live music from Brainbeau. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening People's Art Fair: Activism
DESCRIPTION:Opening night: Thursday 7 April\, 6-9pm\nExhibition open daily: 12-6pm\, Fri 8 – Sun 17 April\nFREE ENTRY \nCome and celebrate the opening of the Activism themed People’s Art Fair (PAF)\, the arty part of the School of Activism 3.0\, founded on the principle that together we are greater than the sum of our parts. \nEnjoy the musical offerings of the multi-talented duo Brainbeau; take in a sneak preview of this diverse exhibition\, created from the collected talents of over 20 local independent artists; have a drink from our locally sourced bar while pondering the question “can art change the world?”. \nThe Brick Project crew will be back for their final Domino Project session this evening. Since the first People’s Art Fair in 2020 these open domino painting sessions have produced a collection of nearly 1000 individually painted dominoes from hundreds of PAF visitors & artists. This mighty collection will be finally arranged into a single collaborative artwork during the opening\, and the result will remain on show at the art fair. After the show\, this piece will find a new home\, publically displayed on one of the PRSC HQ’s beautifully colourful walls. This event is your last chance to be a part of this brilliant project\, it’s not too late! \nAbout the Art Fair: The People’s Art Fair is an open group exhibition curated by the PRSC.
