SUMMARY:Street Art Workshop: Stokes Croft Calling
DESCRIPTION:TicketsDiscover Bristol’s creative heart at Stokes Croft Calling—a FREE all-day celebration where art\, performance\, and history collide. The streets will come to life with fresh performances and interactive activities inspired by the area’s rich history. Explore hidden gems in local businesses and contribute your own creative spark to the story of the neighbourhood. With free tickets available for timed entry\, you can create a day that suits you. \nBe part of the ever-changing visual landscape of The Croft\, and claim your own corner in the legacy of local street art. Kingpins of the local community PRSC will use their extensive knowledge\, and centrality to the art of the area\, to run a street-art workshop where you can contribute to a brand-new work of art on their outside mural wall. Either watch others creating\, or have a go yourself. \nThe mural workshop will invite you to engage with the history and look of Stokes Croft through a bank of stencils\, created over more than a decade in various projects in and around the Croft. Choose which stencil to apply to an abstracted streetscape and make your mark as the piece takes shape. As the streetscape develops\, for those taking part later in the day\, the choices will change from ‘how do we contribute to the collaborative landscape?’ to ‘how do we add colour and imagery to the landscape?’. \nYou’ll be invited to reflect on the choices that graffiti and street-artists have to make every time they work their craft: What’s on the wall already? Can it be incorporated or do I need to start afresh? How do I add and layer meaning? \nBookings necessary to take part. Anyone is welcome to watch the work as it grows over the course of the day! \nAll PPE and materials will be provided. \nThis is a family friendly activity and children are welcome. Participating children must be accompanied by a participating adult who will be responsible for their child at all times. Please book a ticket for each person in attendance – this includes children and babies in pushchairs. \nIn the event of bad weather\, the activity will be adjusted so that it can take place indoors. This may incur a change to the creative content of the work\, but the activity will go ahead whatever the weather. \nThis event is wheelchair accessible. Other workshop participants will be standing unless otherwise arranged. We aim to ensure that this event is accessible to all\, but in order to do this we ask individuals to please contact us in advance to discuss specific access needs\, so we can work with you to try and meet these (email hidden; JavaScript is required). \nEntry requirements: no age restrictions

Her self-taught expertise in fashion and makeup reflects her passion for pushing artistic boundaries. \nAs an artist\, Fishlock explores identity and the human experience\, sparking discussions on creativity\, mental health\, and LGBTQIA+ themes in international exhibitions. Her work is renowned for its depth and authenticity\, offering insights into her transformative journey. As a coach\, Katie empowers creatives\, guiding them through industry challenges with confidence and resilience. \nkatiefishlock.com // @katiefishlock \nMax Middlewood\n“I am a visual artist born 1998 in the East Midlands and based in Bristol for the past six years. I started creating art to help me deal with physical and mental illness. My work ranges from symbols/diagrams to surreal creatures\, portraits and more chaotic mashups of different images\, text and logos. I often aim to cover thought provoking themes and also infuse elements of humor and irony at the same time. A lot of my pieces are like continual diary entries and mini streams of consciousness. I have recently moved into more of an abstract style of painting\, whilst still retaining my signature elements and symbols within my works.” \nmaxmiddlewood.com // @maxmiddlewood \nMERNY\nMerny makes paintings and murals inspired by human interactions\, online memes\, diagrams and safety posters. He predominantly works in pencil and watercolours in his studio and uses spray paint and rollers when working on the street. Alongside his painting practice\, he produces small runs of esoteric garments and bags. \nThe varied output of Merny’s saturated and hilarious watercolours have been described as unique\, vibrant and evocative. Tainted with dark humour and often laden with sarcasm\, his work is relatable to all kinds of people\, and he is unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths about our times both on the street and in his studio. \nmernywernz.com // shop // @mernywernz \nSepr\nBorn and bred in Bristol\, UK\, Sepr is a prolific character based artist whose work can be seen in abundance all over the streets of Bristol and the UK. He has exhibited and painted all over the world\, recently finishing a painting tour of Japan\, China\, Europe\, Australia\, Mexico and the US. He paints as part of the ASK graffiti crew\, screen prints as part of the Jacknife gig poster collective\, and works as a tattooist at Welcome Studios Bristol. \nshaunsepr.com // @sepr \nSLEVEN\nSleven is a sentient being\, made from paint and light\, from the seventh dimension. The seven handed psychonaught is known for painting hip-hop hieroglyphs in a plethora of vibrant cosmic colourways or manifested moments of madness in chromatic tones of bleak chaos\, on whatever he can get his paint stained paws on. \n@mr.sle7en \nTurbo Island\nBased just next door to PRSC in Jamaica Street Studios\, Turby makes colourful and cocky t-shirts for the music geeks and cartoon freaks! \nturbo-island.co.uk // @turboisland \nZubieta\n“My name is Zubieta\, I am multidisciplinary artist\, illustrator\, merch creator\, muralist and graphic designer.\nInspired by cartoons\, sci-fi\, pop culture and folklore I enjoy creating pictures with a touch of humour and surrealism.” \nmartazubieta.com // @onirical_zubieta

SUMMARY:Workshop: Co-Create a Mural with The Bristol Commons
DESCRIPTION:Collaborative design process & creative visual storytelling\nYou are invited to join The Bristol Commons to co-create a mural at PRSC! \nWe will begin by exploring the story of the commons\, looking back at its place in Bristol’s history and investigating the present landscape\, before radically imagining a city transformed by commoning. Through creative workshops we will explore collaborative visual story-telling and collective visioning\, the fruits of which will be woven into a mural design that will be communally painted on PRSC’s famous Outdoor Gallery wall! \nThe creation of this mural wall is an act of commoning itself! We invite you to participate in painting our collective story on the streets of Bristol. Through this\, we are re-commoning the streets themselves and growing a living commons. \nThere will be an introduction to the Bristol Commons\, and a presentation looking at muralism around the world and its historical relation to the commons. \nUsing collage poster making\, we will explore and develop work around the history of community spaces in Bristol. There will also be mapping\, written word (poetry) and group drawing workshops. \nThis is a playful and uncensored creative space where all are welcome! We will collaboratively imagine the mural design\, creating a tapestry woven with the voices of the people and our ideals for a future of the commons in Bristol. These works will be re-composed and scaled up onto the 9ft x 60ft wall – join us later in the week to help paint it! \nAll materials will be provided\, however feel free to bring relevant materials to reference/include around the Bristol Commons ethos. \n\nPeople's Art Fair: Spring // Friday 12 - Sunday 21 April 2024\nThe People's Art Fair encompasses a group exhibition\, performances and creative workshops & activities! SUMMARY:Creative Jam x PRALER
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this event takes place outside in The Yard and Outdoor Gallery/Mural Wall on Jamaica St \nJoin us for an evening of music\, art\, education\, spoken word and a jam to launch a new mural at the PRSC. Bring an instrument\, a poem or a story and share your artwork and your voice. \nAt the start of 2024 we hosted a visit by reparations activists from Ghana to establish links between our communities\, there was much learning\, laughter and joy. The world’s biggest election year in history. Our institutions are crumbling\, our representatives are failing us. We need a decolonisation of politics more than ever. SUMMARY:BODIED CANVAS - A women's circle through playful channels of expression
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to compliment a stranger? Have you ever taken inspiration from other women? Have you ever been an inspiration to other women? Do you want to break the personal barrier you hold for yourself and inspire others? Bodied Canvas aims to smash those barriers with yourself and to connect with others. \nBodied Canvas will collectively discuss how we play down our achievements\, skills\, expertise\, what we like about ourselves\, our personality or even our bodies to stay humble. Together we will undress our emotional layers to bring some clarity to the language we use to undermine what we have to say and taking space. \nBody painting takes place over the second half of the workshop where we will get to decorate each other as a sign of empowerment\, admiration and camaraderie. \nWe adorn ourselves not because we hide but because we want to be seen\, to own our skin and wear it proudly. \nThe act of women beautifying one another is an ancestral ceremony that takes different shapes in every culture\, from henna tattoos\, cornrows braids and bantu knots\, Huadian make-up in China or piercing traditions. \nBy decorating each other\, we empower other women sharing the gift of our unique creative expression through paint. We influence each other\, support one another and grow stronger together in often invisible ways. Through paint we will leave physical marks of our commitment to have each other’s backs. We are all unique and different and our journeys are too but we have all gone through similar experiences and we use that to empower each other and with it ourselves. \nWHAT TO EXPECT : In this workshop we will practice codes of assertiveness as part of the process of supporting one another. We will do body and creative warm up before decorating each other. The workshop includes snacks and hot beverages followed by integration and a relaxation ceremony. You will not be expected to allow all of your body to be painted or for every participant to do so. This workshop also encourages us to remove guilt practicing assertiveness claiming ownership of our bodies and sharing whatever we want whenever we want to. \nWe use water based body paint\, we will test it on your skin upon arrival. \nParticipants are expected to bring a towel for drying and a dressing gown/kimono/big shirt. \n*Open to all women: cis\, trans and non-binary resonating with the gender identity of woman. If you have any queries regarding our inclusion policy\, please don’t hesitate to ask. \nWhile we do our best to create a safe and inclusive space\, it is each individual’s responsibility to look after their needs and boundaries. Please raise any concerns you may have in advance to improve the experience and accommodate you. \nPlease contact us if you are not able to afford the ticket and need a reduced fee\, we want you to join. \nPlease contact us on email hidden; JavaScript is required

We’ll let you in on a badly kept secret: Activism is a doing word (although strictly speaking\, it’s a noun). We can change things\, we can make them better. And after all\, knowledge is power – so\, let’s share it. \nThe People’s Republic of Stokes Croft invites you to the School of Activism 3.0 this spring. Throughout April we’ll be running a series of workshops\, events and activities designed to empower and galvanise every age group. In doing so\, we can foster our own future – and make it something we’re all proud to be a part of. \nView the SOA 3.0 Curriculum \nThis project is founded on the ethos of community inclusion and empowerment. Your donations make it possible for us to offer solidarity pricing\, with no-one turned away through lack of funds\, ensuring our events are available to all. \nDonate to support SOA 3.0 \n\nThe School of Activism 3.0 is a month long programme of workshops\, talks and activities brought to you by Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft.
