DESCRIPTION:TicketsPosters have a venerable history as the crossroads of art and politics\, creating understanding and solidarity. It was then: Paris in ’68\, the Vietnam War\, it is now: Occupy\, Extinction Rebellion. \nCareful Now! Collective are creating a space to practice with basic artistic techniques to help keep the art of DIY poster-making alive. There’ll be some pre-made stencils ready to use\, but you’ll be learning to make your own with two techniques – ‘negative’ stencil cuts and lino\, which combine beautifully. You’ll also get tips for how to do this at home with basic DIY equipment. \nOur workshops are pay-what-you-can – we recommend £4 but no-one will be turned away through lack of funds. SUMMARY:Translation as Activism – Turkish and Kurdish Poetry in Translation
DESCRIPTION:TicketsCome and hear poetry from Turkish and Kurdish poets\, performed in English translation. A wide range of voices from 1960s ‘Second New’ movement\, Sufi Bektaşi poets\, gay and lesbian poets post-1980s and from Kurdish poet in prison Ilhan Sami Çomak. \nPoet and human rights activist Caroline Stockford will speak for 10 minutes at the beginning about translation as activism and mention the campaign for İlhan Çomak\, who has published 9 books of poetry from prison and is now in his 29th year of detention. \nThe readings by Bristol poets will be followed by a hip hop/psych DJ set by Hidden Element of Junglist Dub Club who will spin and mix some Turkish psychedelic vinyls as well as playing hip hop/jungle and his own productions. \n\nThe School of Activism 3.0 is a month long programme of workshops\, talks and activities brought to you by Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft. DESCRIPTION:TicketsThe fall of the Colston statue on 7th June 2020 can be seen as the culmination of 100yrs of campaigning against his city centre presence\, which had intensified in the last decade\, and intersected on that famous day. Whilst many individuals & institutions suddenly rushed to disown him\, and the impact of the toppling rippled much further away than just in Bristol\, that wasn’t the end of it! Tory ministers\, right-wing media\, Labour politicians\, the CPS and the police launched a campaign of persecution – and those persecuted needed solidarity and support. \nSpeakers from Countering Colston\, Bristol Radical History Group and legal support reflect on the campaigns that resulted in the fall of Colston\, and the acquittal of the defendants. DESCRIPTION:TicketsRoss Lovelock of Bathtub Print and PRSC’s very own object… will guide you through the creation of an original collage zine. \nMake a whole zine of your very own\, or create pages to add to a collaborative zine! We will provide all the materials you need to collage images onto a provided template so that you have a fully formed\, one-off collage-book. \nLEVEL UP: You want more? Ross will work closely with ten zine-makers to reproduce your original collage book\, making ten copies of your zine to take away! They will be black and white\, with a full colour cover\, folded and stapled. There are only ten available slots for this part\, but if they’re not all filled then it will be possible to upgrade on the day. \nWe will provide all the essential tools\, along with a big box of collage materials\, but if you’ve any specific images or texts you’d like to incorporate then please bring them along! When selecting resources bear in mind that the zines produced will be either A5 or A6. \nMaking a zine or pages is pay-what-you-can – we recommend £4 but no-one will be turned away through lack of funds. Since the first People’s Art Fair in 2020 these open domino painting sessions have produced a collection of nearly 1000 individually painted dominoes from hundreds of PAF visitors & artists. This mighty collection will be finally arranged into a single collaborative artwork during the opening\, and the result will remain on show at the art fair. After the show\, this piece will find a new home\, publically displayed on one of the PRSC HQ’s beautifully colourful walls. This event is your last chance to be a part of this brilliant project\, it’s not too late! \nAbout the Art Fair: The People’s Art Fair is an open group exhibition curated by the PRSC. DESCRIPTION:TicketsAn early evening of marginal\, experimental\, electronic music. \nAl Karpenter (Barakaldo) is an outsider among the underdogs and an ingenious dilettante who likes to challenge of course of history. His live performances are as rare as they are unpredictable. Listening to his album “Musik from a Private Hell” (Bruit Direct Disques)\, we are immediately caught by his disembodied singing with positive nihilism. It’s the end of the world but the best is yet to come. \nHis music has been also been released by ever/never (NYC)\, Munster (Madrid) and Crystal Mine (Burgos) and has been described as lonely post-industrial weirdness\, deconstructed Fushitsusha or as the perfect soundtrack for our grim times. \nFor this unique stage appearance\, the duo will be accompanied by the improvisers Marta Sainz (bass and vocals)\,Enrique Zaccagnini (electronics) and Mattin of the groups Billy Bao and Regler (computer). File under non-musique\, No more heroes anymore. \nSunik Kim is a musician\, writer and filmmaker currently based in California. Their last album\, Zero Chime\, was released in 2019 on First Terrace Records and featured Kim playing alto sax alongside a multitude of traditional Korean instruments. They are also a regular contributor to experimental music publication Tone Glow\, and have had writing featured in Pitchfork\, Bandcamp Daily\, Soap Ear\, Bellona Magazine and elsewhere. \nDominic Coles is a composer & improviser based in Queens\, NYC. His work investigates the interactions of place\, personhood\, and power as they are articulated in sound\, attempting to complicate and intervene in these categories through specific acts of technologically mediated listening.

Our experienced workshop crew will guide you through applying the transfers to create your own unique design. \nThe price of a workshop includes a fine English bone china mug\, transfers\, firing and tuition. If you want to make something else\, choose from a selection of other fine English bone china ware (available for an additional charge on the day). \nPractical Info\nCollecting your finished piece: the china ware needs to be fired then cooled\, so you’ll be able to pick them up the following week.\nSession times: choose between 1 – 3pm or 3.15 – 5.15pm. SUMMARY:Cost of Living Crisis: Organising meeting
DESCRIPTION:An open planning meeting for any individual or representative of an organisation interested in helping organise the next steps of building the movement against the government with relation to the ‘cost of living crisis’. \nWe are in crisis: a Covid crisis\, a care crisis\, a climate crisis\, a cost-of-living crisis. The government has killed of hundreds of thousands through austerity\, pandemic corruption and ineptitude – and is now driving millions more into poverty. The economy is set up to exploit us: as households face costs of over £1000\, as the cost of living shoots up by nearly 10%\, as interest rates and rents rise\, oil companies rake in record profits from higher prices\, employers keep wages low and government holds down pensions and other benefits while increasing National Insurance. \nDemonstrations across the country on Sat 12 Feb demanded action on the rising cost of living. Further nationwide protests are planned in March and April. Come along to our organising meeting to discuss how we can build the campaign in Bristol\, to build pressure for action to tackle the cost of living crisis.
