SUMMARY:Education and Socialism: The Common School
DESCRIPTION:TicketsIt’s easy to criticise the education system\, and so we should\, but are there aspects of the school as an institution which we would keep after the revolution? When we write off schools as tools of state ideology or as sites of oppression\, do we lose sight of their potential to be sites of liberation? \nIn this session we look at a chapter from Radical Education and The Common School\, a book which uses real world examples to think through what a genuinely egalitarian\, democratic\, radical and public education system could look like. \nWhat would a truly public education system be like? How do we start to build one? \nWe will discuss the key themes and questions as a group after a short introduction on the text. All welcome\, even if you haven’t managed to read it\, but you’ll get more out of the session if you do. \nLink to the reading: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xVXG6CeMRtAL8NqS9jmtnN59_TITxAnH/view?usp=sharing \n———————— \nBristol Transformed is a grassroots\, volunteer-run\, socialist education group. Bringing together activists\, trade unionists\, and everyone who wants to learn\, we’re creating the space to discuss the most important issues facing us\, equipping us with the skills and knowledge to transform Bristol and the world. \nWe run an annual festival of politics\, arts and culture in May\, and weekly events throughout the rest of the year. See all our events here: https://hdfst.uk/bristol-transformed \nBristol Transformed is run by dozens of local people. Without new people coming in every year\, we wouldn’t be able to maintain the same standard of political education events that you enjoy. If you’d be interested in joining us\, sign up as a BT volunteer today and we’ll be in touch! \nTickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested minimum donation of £3.00 in order to help cover venue costs. There are some limited free tickets as well for people who will struggle to contribute this.

SUMMARY:An Evening in Solidarity: Palestinian Relief
DESCRIPTION:TicketsHosted in partnership with Bristol Palestine Museum and Bristol Solidarity Cafe\, this fundraiser directly supports Ibrahim\, his family\, and their vital relief efforts through Al Nasser Charitable Society. Join us on February 8th as art\, music\, and community come together in aid of Palestinian families displaced by the ongoing crisis in Gaza. \nAbout the Cause \nAl Nasser Charitable (النَّاصر- ‘The Helper’) was founded in 2021 by our friend Ibrahim Raida during the Israeli attacks on Gaza\, with the aim of delivering urgent aid to those affected. This fundraiser directly supports Ibrahim\, his displaced family\, and their vital work through the charity. \nIbrahim and his family were displaced from Gaza City to Rafah\, along with over a million others. As Executive Director of Al Nasser Charitable\, Ibrahim leads efforts to provide essential support\, including food parcels\, health kits\, drinking water\, tent camps\, and hot meals for displaced communities. All proceeds will help those who have had their homes detroyed\, providing them with essential support as they continue to live in tents while working to rebuild their lives. \nWhat to Expect: \nArt & Exhibitions\nGuests are invited to immerse themselves in the local art and exhibitions provided by South West England’s most promising young artists. Silent bidding will run throughout the evening and an open auction for art pieces will be carried out at 9:00pm – the highest of which will be donated directly to Ibrahim and his family. \nPoetry\nRiveting poetry set to bring chills and set heart ablaze is to be expected from this event. With Sonder Spoken Word on board to asssist in curation and ensure the most poignant individuals are represented here\, there’s no doubt the passions will be ignited through this rhythmic contribution. \nLive Entertainment\nWe’re very lucky and honoured to have some of the best in Bristol up and coming talent join us in provining a cascade of soothing melodies to soothe the evening and ease our transitions between the showcases which this evening will be graced with. From indie-folk artists to spoken word performances\, the soundtrack of the evening promises to be one which will soothe the soul. \nFood by Bristol Solidarity Cafe. \nLet’s come together to make a direct contribution as we recognise the power of art\, culture\, and collective action.

SUMMARY:Trade Union Recognition & What It Means for You
DESCRIPTION:Tickets(Tickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested minimum donation of £3.00 in order to help cover venue costs. There are some limited free tickets as well for people who will struggle to contribute this.) \nTU Anon sessions are short and simple workshops about how to campaign and organise in your workplace. Whether you’ve never been a union member\, or you’re an experienced organiser\, you can learn something to help in your own workplace and share your tips with other attendees.\n——————————— \nThis month\, we’re focusing on the relationship between trade union and employer:\n– What does it mean to have an officially recognised union?\n– How do you & your coworkers get there?\n– What are the pitfalls of recognition that you need to avoid?\n– How can you use official negotiations to bring in more members & build a stronger union? \nThe first half of the event will be a presentation and Q&A. For the second half we’ll form smaller groups\, discuss each other’s workplaces\, and help to solve whatever challenges you might be facing in your union organising. \n———————— \nBristol Transformed is a grassroots\, volunteer-run\, socialist education group.

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Fusion Dance
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nWE WANT ALL OF YOU.\nWe throw dance parties where all bodies are invited. You already know how to dance\, we’re just here to give you permission to embrace all of the ways your body wants to move.\nCome alone\, come with friends\, dip in a toe or plunge in the deep end. However you want to party\, we’re here for it. \nSo that everyone feels safe to unleash their full selves on the dancefloor our only rule is to be excellent to one another (aka the “don’t be an asshole” policy). What does that mean? We expect you to be great at respecting other peoples’ boundaries and bodies\, to pay attention\, and to use your words if you’re unsure. Trust us\, asking is way less awkward than getting it wrong. \nLOCAL TEACHERS AND DJS\nWe’ll kick off the evening with an intro to social dancing for anyone who’d like some tips on dancing with a partner\, before local DJ’s get us moving with tracks ranging from slow and squishy to high-energy bangers. \nNo partner or experience necessary\, just bring yourself and shoes you can move in. \nLINE-UP\n7.30pm doors\n7.45pm all-levels workshop\n8.45pm our DJ’s bring the party \nACCESS\nThe venue is all on one level from pavement to dancefloor. There is a single-user\, unadapted bathroom on the same level. \nIf you want to attend the class and might need some modifications\, DM or email email hidden; JavaScript is required so we can make sure our teaching meets your needs. \nBROKE?\nIf you can’t afford a ticket and want to come dancing\, email email hidden; JavaScript is required and we’ll try to help. \nWHAT THE F IS FUSION?\nFusion is partner dancing\, without the baggage. We’re not here to stick to a rigid set of steps\, but to actually dance with another person to good music on a night out. Fusion is all about improvisation\, connecting with your partner and seeing what happens. We don’t care if you’ve never danced before\, as long as you’re having a good time. \nFusion gets it’s name from fusing different styles of dance – maybe you’ve danced blues\, tango\, lindy\, west coast swing or hip hop or maybe you just like to get on the dance floor and shake it\, you have something to bring! \nFor us\, fusion is more than a dance\, it’s also a way of living the future we want to build. That means it is queer\, it is feminist\, and we don’t want anyone left behind. \nSliding scale: £5 (low income)\, £8 (general release)\, £15 (pay-it-forward) // Buy tickets » \nEntry requirements: no age restrictions

SUMMARY:Smashing the genocide-industrial complex
DESCRIPTION:TicketsTU Anon sessions are short and simple workshops for campaigning or organising in your workplace\, with plenty of time to chat and ask questions. \nTickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested minimum donation of £3.00 in order to help cover venue costs. There are some limited free tickets as well for people who will struggle to contribute this. \nWhat can we learn about effective direct action from the courageous efforts of Palestine Action?\nThe UK has been no stranger to outlandish displays of direct action in recent years. From the development of the Extinction Rebellion approach of extended periods of ‘mass’ action with lofty demands\, anti-politics and ‘autonomous groups’ leading to the evolution of Just Stop Oil and Youth Demand. Among these Palestine Action appears to stand out in their ability to claim material wins for their cause. \nTheir activity has successfully shut down the production of weapons destined for use by Israel\, in factories across the country for days\, weeks and even permanently. They’ve cost Elbit systems millions in lost contracts by making companies feel the cost of doing business in Palestinian blood. Despite arrests\, sentences and persistent abuse of counter terror powers by the UK state\, they continue the fight against genocide in ways few others are. \nJoin Bristol Transformed with our guest host Narzanin Massoumi in conversation with Luxx\, a leading Palestine Actionist\, British-Syrian\, and poet. We’ll be exploring the group’s strategy and tactics\, their efficacy as well as the response from the State\, to discover what we might learn about direct action that doesn’t rely on mass engagement\, whether it should be encouraged and how it fits into a broader movement. \n————————\nBristol Transformed is a grassroots\, volunteer-run\, socialist education group. SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Fusion Dance
DESCRIPTION:WE WANT ALL OF YOU.\nWe throw dance parties where all bodies are invited. \nLOCAL TEACHERS AND DJS \nWe’ll kick off the evening with an intro to social dancing for anyone who’d like some tips on dancing with a partner\, before local DJ’s get us moving with tracks ranging from slow and squishy to high-energy bangers. \nNo partner or experience necessary\, just bring yourself and shoes you can move in. \nLINE-UP \n7.30pm doors\n7.45pm all-levels workshop\n8.45pm our DJ’s bring the party \nACCESS \nThe venue is all on one level from pavement to dancefloor. There is a single-user\, unadapted bathroom on the same level. \nIf you want to attend the class and might need some modifications\, DM or email email hidden; JavaScript is required so we can make sure our teaching meets your needs. \nBROKE? \nIf you can’t afford a ticket and want to come dancing\, email email hidden; JavaScript is required and we’ll try to help. \nWHAT THE F IS FUSION? \nFusion is partner dancing\, without the baggage. \nEntry requirements: no age restrictions
