SUMMARY:The People's Comedy: Best in Class SPECIAL
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nTwo renowned and deeply loved comedy institutions join forces for a working class comedy showcase!\nThe People’s Comedy WINNER (Chortle awards): Best pro comedy night ’25 and Best live comedy format ’25 for Wales & the West! \nBest In Class 2024 ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards – Panel Prize + much more. \nFeaturing working class and proud comics! :\nHannah Weetman ✊\nJustina Seselskaite ✊\nDanny Scott ✊️\nGabrielle Macpherson✊️\n& Matt Pugsley as MC ✊ \nWHY THE PEOPLE’S COMEDY?\nThe People’s Comedy formed in 2018 with the aim of platforming comedians with a message (think counter-culture\, underrepresented\, original) and ensuring that they’re paid for their craft. On top of that\, no headliners showcasing each act’s unique comedic voice. Also\, this night supports the collectively owned PRSC building to grow and thrive. More about them here: https://prsc.org.uk/ \nWHY BEST IN CLASS?\nBest in Class was founded in 2018 by comedian Sian Davies to tackle the financial and social barriers that block working class comedians from progressing in the comedy industry. What started as a crowdfunded\, profit-sharing Edinburgh Fringe show has grown into a bold movement that platforms working class voices\, provides vital training\, and ensures comedians are paid fairly for their work.\nEvery act selected for Best in Class receives support in marketing\, tech\, and promotion—without having to pay to take part. It’s more than just a showcase; it’s a challenge to the industry’s gatekeeping\, and a lifeline for underrepresented comics.\nBest in Class has sold out year after year at the Edinburgh Fringe and picked up major awards along the way\, including the Panel Prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards (2022 & 2024)\, a Fringe Recovery Grant\, and a BBC Comedy Grant. \n✔ Both have: raised tens of thousands of pounds for comedians paid in-line with our equal pay structure. \nPlease note: the more we make through tickets\, the more we can pay acts! But please only give as much as you can comfortably. \nThere is a bar which opens the same time as doors\, from 7pm.\nThe show starts at 7:30pm\, so please arrive comfortably before then. \nMore information about us at www.thepeoplescomedy.org

PAF is kept free for artists to take part in\, and all ticketed events apply the principle 'no one turned away through lack of funds'.  PAF is a natural extension of our work to break down barriers and increase inclusion and voice\, and is a direct challenge to the exclusionary idea that 'real art’ is exclusive and only created by\, and relevant to a small cultured\, wealthy elite. PAF promotes creative cultural practice as an essential tool for people to challenge or highlight social injustice and to galvanise change.\n\nThroughout the fair we collaborate with local social-minded creatives to offer workshops; a poetry open mic; and a music jam session\, inviting everyone to share and celebrate their talents during the fair. The net result is a visually diverse and culturally rich event featuring hundreds of artworks from over 70 artists; and the emergence of a confident\, mutually supportive creative community that is joyful to be part of.\n\n Browse the People's Art Fair: Spring Exhibition online\n \nPeople’s Art Fair: Opening NightJoin us for the opening night of the People's Art Fair - be among the first to see all the amazing artwork on offer\, access your inner artist with some fun & easy creative activities\, and have a drink while you browse\, schmooze & enjoy live music from Brainbeau.
