SUMMARY:Democracy in Your Party?
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nTickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested minimum donation of £3.00 in order to help cover venue costs. There are some limited free tickets as well for people who will struggle to contribute this. \n\n“If we seek to build a society that truly believes that every cook can govern\, we have to put those beliefs into practice.” \nAs Your Party’s founding conferene gets delayed until the new year\, the organisation behind-the-scenes looks increasingly worrying. Rumours swirl of secretive disputes\, unofficial factions\, and unelected leaders coup’d out of their own party. \nIn light of this\, it falls to us – supporters on the ground – to put forward a new vision of what this party could be. Joining debates taking place across the country\, this week’s event will discuss democratic structures: what sort of party should we fight for? How could a new party empower ordinary people to become political organisers & leaders? \nBefore this event\, we encourage you to read the article “Democracy Is More Than Voting”. We’ll be using it as the starting point for discussing different models of democracy\, and the best ways to build a socialist organisation. Don’t worry about the specifics\, like mentions of particular committees or “Robert’s Rules”! \nEvent format: After a short introduction\, we’ll spend most of the event discussing the article in groups of 4-5 people\, with some time to discuss it with the whole room afterwards. \n\nBristol Transformed runs an annual festival of politics\, arts and culture in April\, and events every Tuesday evening throughout the rest of the year. See all our events here: https://hdfst.uk/bristol-transformed \nWe are a grassroots\, volunteer-run\, socialist education group. Bringing together activists\, trade unionists\, and everyone who wants to learn\, we’re creating the space to discuss the most important issues facing us\, equipping us with the skills and knowledge to transform Bristol and the world. \nBristol Transformed is run by dozens of local people. Without new people coming in every year\, we wouldn’t be able to maintain the same standard of political education events that you enjoy. If you’d be interested in joining us\, sign up as a BT volunteer today and we’ll be in touch!

There are some limited free tickets as well for people who will struggle to contribute this. \n\nCorbyn & Sultana’s announcement of a new political party has shaken British politics\, but everything about the party is up in the air. How will it be organised? Who will lead it? Will it be a purely parliamentary party\, or can we aim for something more? \nIn this event we’ll discuss one proposal for how to build a radically democratic party\, led by its members – Max Shanly’s article “Towards a New Model Left Party” \nWe encourage everyone to read the article\, or at least the closing section where he lays out his concrete proposals. \nEvent format: After a short introduction\, we will discuss the article in small groups\, with time to feed back to the whole room afterwards. \n————————\nBristol Transformed is a grassroots\, volunteer-run\, socialist education group. DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nIn partnership with PRSC’s School of Activism\, Meg will share campaign updates on UK water pollution\, perform new poetry and some from her 2025 collection ‘My Avon’ and ultimately attempt to answer the question – is the river safe to swim in?\nIn partnership with the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft’s School of Activism\, Meg will share campain updates on UK water pollution\, perform new poetry and some from her 2025 collection ‘My Avon’ and ultimately attempt to answer the question – is the river safe to swim in? \nAfter her wedding to the river Avon in Bristol in June 2023\, Meg has now been on four pilgrmages up and down her beloved’s banks\, from source to mouth. She has toured with the documentary film Rave on for the Avon (Guardian\, 4 stars) throughout the UK and won a scholarship to the Earth Law Centre where she learnt about the Rights for Nature movement – the fastest growing legal movement in the world. \nShe is gathering information from lawers\, politicians\, scientists and academics as she travels and channels them into her writing and other artistic endevours such as Avona – Bristol’s giant river-spirit puppet. \nShe swims in the Avon regularly and is aware of the risks\, she wants others to be aware too\, and to understand the power of the autonomy in their decision making. \n\nEnabling Active Citizenship since 2019\nCurated and hosted by PRSC\, School of Activism events are designed to be empowering experiences equipping people with the tools to challenge the status quo\, contest power structures and ultimately to change the world.\nWe learn by doing.\nWe make our own future.

SUMMARY:Live Coding Synths with Emute Lab Instruments & Machina Bristronica
DESCRIPTION:Free Tickets \nCome and discover how to use both text based and visual computer coding to make live music!\nLive Coding is the musical practice of performing with computers to make music\, using code as an instrument. Live Coders use specially designed programming languages to improvise electronic music. In performance they write and modify algorithms that generate music\, and project their code on-stage to the audience. \nLive Coding is an artform that has spread worldwide\, and also moved into clubland\, where you can find musicians improvising electronica at Algoraves. \nEmute Lab Instruments have been developing hardware and live coding software to control modular synthesizer rigs: they perform\, write code\, create new software and design machines for realising new musical approaches – and they’re bringing all this to PRSC to share with us! \nAlso\, the team behind the Bristol Patching Circle will also be there to lead you through the process of using Max/MSP and Pure Data and Max to create wild and enticing musical instruments/effects. \nDrop in any time throughout the day and try your hand at live coding music! \nNo experience needed\, there will be clear examples to try out and we’ll be there to guide you into making music with your first lines of code. There will also be short demo performances scheduled throughout the day and a jam session in the evening – plus a stack of pizzas\, and the PRSC bar will be open all day! \nBring a little modular rig and/or your laptop and headphones if you’re able. We will have a limited amount of machines available for use if you can’t bring anything \nEveryone welcome!

SUMMARY:The People's Comedy: Yard Party II - Return of the Scaffolding
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nAfter the successful and hugely popular Yard Party I that we ran in 2024\, we’re bringing it back! \nThe People’s Comedy WINNER (Chortle awards): Best pro comedy night ’25 and Best live comedy format ’25 for Wales & the West! \nComedians to be announced….! \nWHY THE PEOPLE’S COMEDY? \nThe People’s Comedy formed in 2018 with the aim of platforming comedians with a message (think counter-culture\, underrepresented\, original) and ensuring that they’re paid for their craft. On top of that\, no headliners showcasing each act’s unique comedic voice. \nAlso\, this night supports the collectively owned PRSC building to grow and thrive. More about them here: https://prsc.org.uk/ \n✔ raised tens of thousands of pounds for comedians paid in-line with our equal pay structure. \nPlease note: the more we make through tickets\, the more we can pay acts! But please only give as much as you can comfortably. \nThere is a bar which opens the same time as doors\, from 7pm.\nThe show starts at 7:30pm\, so please arrive comfortably before then. \n– N.B. if the weather isn’t any good\, we’ll be running in the beloved inside space at PRSC- Capacity is reduced where we’re outside so the higher fee helps us to ensure we can pay our artists. \nMore information about us at: www.thepeoplescomedy.org \nby Gavin Jacob Power https://gjpphotography.co.uk/ \nEntry requirements: 16+\, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio

SUMMARY:School of Activism Presents: SamaBhav UK 2025 Traveling Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED due to low ticket sales\nA night of cinema\, conversation\, and community reflection on the theme of masculinity\, as part of our monthly School of Activism screening series.\n\nSamaBhav is a travelling film festival that brings together cinema\, conversation\, and community reflection. It grows from the decades-long work of Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA)\, Mumbai\, and is hosted in collaboration with the South Asian Heritage Trust as part of South Asian Heritage Month 2025 theme of “Roots to Routes.” Each event in this series offers films\, keynotes\, and collective dialogue across cities and civic spaces in the UK. \nSamaBhav creates a space to reflect on how masculinities are shaped by migration\, caste\, kinship\, memory\, and the challenges of accountability. It invites audiences to engage with the complexities of gender\, queerness\, care\, and justice without expecting simple solutions. \nSamaBhav encourages participants to ask: What do we inherit? What do we resist? What are we becoming together? \nSamaBhav invites you to be part of a shared journey. This is an opportunity to build connections\, reflect on difficult questions\, and participate in conversations that can ripple into civic life\, education\, and community practice. \n\nIf you would like to come but are unable to afford a ticket\, please email email hidden; JavaScript is required for concessions. \nACCESSIBILITY: \nThe venue itself is wheelchair accessible\, however we do not currently have a fully wheelchair accessible toilet. \nEntry requirements: 18+ \n\n\n\nEnabling Active Citizenship since 2019\nCurated and hosted by PRSC\, School of Activism events are designed to be empowering experiences equipping people with the tools to challenge the status quo\, contest power structures and ultimately to change the world.\nWe learn by doing.\nWe make our own future.

SUMMARY:The Improv Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nJoin us for a night of spontaneous laughter at The Improv Spotlight.\nImmerse yourself in the world of unscripted comedy as two talented groups from our vibrant community take centre stage. These groups will weave unique stories\, characters\, and humour on the spot for your entertainment. The Spotlight highlights the spontaneous comedy of improvised theatre and proudly showcases the diverse skills of local troupes and artists within our community. \nDoors at 7pm. Show starts at 7.30pm.\nTickets are Pay What You Can with a minimum of £8. \nThis month under the Spotlight we have the acts ‘Pressure Cooker’ and ‘Tales From The Wasteland’. \n*Pressure Cooker* \nPressure Cooker – the improvised restaurant show (from the cast of The Bish Bosh Bash and the creators of Tales of Adventure). \nStep into our restaurant\, where the experience is different every night! Our performers take ingredients from the audience’s suggestions to create recipes for funny\, silly\, and relatable stories. \nYou’ll see how the front-of-house\, back-of-house\, and customers deal with wildly unpredictable situations and character tales\, serving up all-you-can-eat laughs. \nAs our Head Chef always says… “You can’t make an omelette without cracking a few laughs”. \n*Tales From The Wasteland* \nTales From The Wasteland is an improvised post-apocalyptic adventure comedy. This twisted and talented cast of wastelanders will take a single suggestion from you and craft an entire narrative show with no pre-prepared characters\, story or dialogue. \nIf the world was ending\, what would be the one thing you’d want to survive? Join us as we explore a new world and find out what’s left over after Earth’s devastation. Expect raiders\, mutants and violence over scarce resources in this absurd dark comedy inspired by classics of the genre such as Mad Max\, The Last of Us and Fallout. \nWarning: this show tends to have dark themes\, violence and cannibalism. Seriously\, cannibalism comes up way too often. \nEntry requirements: no age restrictions

SUMMARY:The People's Comedy: Independence Day

And yet the emancipated nation has become the most powerful force the world has ever seen. \nThis Independence Day\, let’s cast a humorous light on the ills that entails\, and remember the underdog spirit the day is meant to honour. \nThe People’s Comedy WINNER (Chortle awards): Best pro comedy night ’25 and Best live comedy format ’25 for Wales & the West! \nComedians include (some from the USA and some not!): \nElaine Fellows (runner-up in Hastings Newcomer of the Year 2022 and a finalist in Brighton New Comedian of the Year 2021) ✊\nIzzy Francke (Funny Women Awards 2023) ✊\nMonica Chatterjee (Semi Finalist- Komedia Brighton ‘23\nSemi Finalist- WNAOTY ‘23\nLonglisted- Funny Women ‘23) ✊\nBahkai Wynter (Truly a People’s Comedy legend) ✊\nAbigail Saenz (2023      GigGag Comedy Festival) ✊\nStephen Bisland (as seen on HBO\, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama)✊ \nGracie Mars as MC (Semis: SYTYF23) ✊ \nWHY THE PEOPLE’S COMEDY?\nThe People’s Comedy formed in 2018 with the aim of platforming comedians with a message (think counter-culture\, underrepresented\, original) and ensuring that they’re paid for their craft. SUMMARY:School of Activism Presents: Framing Agnes
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nScreening of ‘Framing Agnes’\, followed by a casual discussion\, as part of PRSC’s monthly School of Activism film screening series.\nWe will be fundraising for local trans healthcare initiatives at the event – bring cash! (if that is a thing you have) \n“Agnes\, the pioneering\, pseudonymized transgender woman who participated in Harold Garfinkel’s gender health research at UCLA in the 1960s\, has long stood as a figurehead of trans history. \nIn this rigorous cinematic exercise that blends fiction and nonfiction\, director Chase Joynt explores where and how her platform has become a pigeonhole. Framing Agnes endeavours to widen the frame through which trans history is viewed — one that has remained too narrow to capture the multiplicity of experiences eclipsed by Agnes’s. \nThrough a collaborative practice of reimagination\, an impressive line-up of trans stars (Zackary Drucker\, Angelica Ross\, Jen Richards\, Max Wolf Valerio\, Silas Howard\, and Stephen Ira) take on vividly rendered\, impeccably vintage re-enactments\, bringing to life groundbreaking artifacts of trans health care. \nJoynt’s signature form-rupturing style radically re-envisions the imposition of the frame on the cultural memory of transness through his brilliantly crafted\, communally driven excavation. This reclamation tears away with remarkable precision the myth of isolation as the mode of existence of transgender history makers\, breathing new life into a lineage of collaborators and conspirators who have been forgotten for far too long.” \n~ Sundance Programmers\, 2022 \n\nEnabling Active Citizenship since 2019\nCurated and hosted by PRSC\, School of Activism events are designed to be empowering experiences equipping people with the tools to challenge the status quo\, contest power structures and ultimately to change the world.\nWe learn by doing.\nWe make our own future.\n\n\nArticle about our mural wall piece about trans healthcare from a few years ago: https://prsc.org.uk/dying-to-get-started/
