The ashes of Alan “Bear” Smith, Stokes Croft Busking street poet, who died late last year of a heroin overdose are now with us in Stokes Croft. It is intended to have a small ceremony to scatter his ashes on Bristol Docks on a date soon to be announced. We believe it would be appropriate to have a short poetry recital in Alan’s memory. If anybody would like to contribute and recite some poetry, please contact us

I’ve commissioned a memorial stone for Bear which will be installed on Stokes Croft sometime in the next few months.
I last spoke to Bear outside the Croft, after the Dalek gig, on 13th October 2009. He was happy.
I put a video of him on youtube, reciting one of his pieces, before Mongrel played at the Fleece in February 2009.

He is missed.
