Young Bean goes out every month with his Mum and the rest of Love Bristol (A local faith-based organisation) and helps to keep the Croft’s lovely (But sadly not recycling) yellow bins in tip-top shape.. Imagine his consternation last week when he discovered that one of the bins had been re-painted black… When he was told that it was the Council what done it, he was very upset, but set about his work with vim and vigour…
As soon as he had finished, he headed up the road to carry on with his work… Tears followed when he discovered that SIX bins had been replaced with horrid new black plastic bins…
“Mummy”, he cried, “Why have those people from the Council changed these bins when they did it before only about nine months ago? Why haven’t they replaced them with the recycling bins we have been begging for for over two years now? ” As tears drolled down his cheeks, he whimpered, “Don’t they know that the World is in a pickle, and that if we don’t look after the planet, us young ‘uns won’t have much to look forward to… ” His tiny voice tailed off as he whispered, “I wonder how many ice creams we could have got for the cost of those silly bins?”
If you also wonder how many ice creams you could have got for the price of six bins installed for no apparent reason, and against the expressed wishes of the local community, please e-mail email hidden; JavaScript is required , email hidden; JavaScript is required and email hidden; JavaScript is required
These are nice people, and they will surely know the right answers, because they are in authority, and our Council would not do things that the People do not want…
Sigh! I will ask. Jon
I have had the following response, “The old bins were less secure and there was a constant drip of repair call outs to refix them. This design is more secure and stable.”
So presumably the longer term cost will be less and hence save council taxpayers money.
Have a good day all
Jon
Jon,
I have to ask you if you if you believe the response you have received. You and I both know that this response is disingenuous and nothing more than a poor attempt to justify the miserable actinons of certain members within the Council. Could you please let us know how much it cost to replace these six bins? The community has consistently championed on-street recycling… There is a growing Community of like minded people in Stokes Croft who champion forward-looking ideas. Is it not time that the Councillors make their mind up whether they wish to engage… We have a new administration, and were expecting a new dawn… There is a vision for Stokes Croft. It will happen with or without the help from the Council… thus far, the executive has been more hindrance than help… Perhaps an informal meeting between you, Mark and ourselves…
Chris Chalkley
Why can’t everyone in the council be as good at their job as Jon?
– Curious that the “old bin” at the bottom of Christmas Steps has been allowed to happily exist with huge and significant damage for many years..
Is it not unfair that the Stokes Croft Six should attract such special privileges ?!
