Inspired by a conversation with Tristan in our shop earlier this week, local resident Graham Driscoll has kindly donated a 50th anniversary VE Day special edition of the Bristol Post, published Tuesday 2 May, 1995.
Of particular interest is the photograph of Dove St residents enjoying a VE Day street party, just outside the Hillgrove – Graham was born at 1 Dove St (terraced housing before it was compulsorily purchased to build the flats) in October 1942, so he, his sister and his mother are all in the picture!
There were so many other interesting bits, I couldn’t resist including a few extras here!
