NEW DATE: Stokes Croft Land Trust – Meet the Board

Tuesday 15 February, 2022 @ 19:00 - 20:00

** This is an online event **

POSTPONED due to illness. Rescheduled for Tuesday 15 February.

Ring in the lunar new year with an online discussion with the Stokes Croft Land Trust (SCLT) on securing independent spaces in Stokes Croft invested by and for the community. SCLT is seeking to raise a maximum of £345,000 through community share offers. Over 200 investors have now signed up to purchase 17-25 Jamaica Street and 14 Hillgrove Street (otherwise known as the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft HQ) to bring it into community ownership.

PRSC – responsible for the conservation of a lot of the street art and as a result, much of Stokes Croft cultural capital – runs an outdoor gallery and mural wall, the School of Activism, a radio station, youth workshops, and support for local rough sleepers through Street Survival, a weekly skill-sharing / self-help session for local rough-sleepers. The revenue generated by the sale of work from Stokes Croft China and the People’s Printshop directly funds the work they do.

SCLT’s hope is that the acquisition of these buildings will be the first of many, allowing local people and businesses to have more of a say in what happens in their neighbourhoods. What should the future of Stokes Croft be for our next generation? How do community share offers work? Join the SCLT Board on Feb 1 for a discussion and Q&A session and to share your vision for Stokes Croft and Bristol in the face of rapid development and how the local community should be included.

If you can’t make this online zoom and/or you’d prefer to chat in person, SCLT will be hosting an exhibition at The Vestibules – Park Street, City Hall, College Green from Tue 8 – Thu 10 Feb from 12 – 7pm and Fri 11 Feb from 12 – 5pm.
