Live Coding Synths with Emute Lab Instruments & Machina Bristronica

Sun 7 September, 2025 @ 13:00 - 19:00

Free entry

Come and discover how to use both text based and visual computer coding to make live music!

Live Coding is the musical practice of performing with computers to make music, using code as an instrument. Live Coders use specially designed programming languages to improvise electronic music. In performance they write and modify algorithms that generate music, and project their code on-stage to the audience.

Live Coding is an artform that has spread worldwide, and also moved into clubland, where you can find musicians improvising electronica at Algoraves.

Emute Lab Instruments have been developing hardware and live coding software to control modular synthesizer rigs: they perform, write code, create new software and design machines for realising new musical approaches – and they’re bringing all this to PRSC to share with us!

Also, the team behind the Bristol Patching Circle will also be there to lead you through the process of using Max/MSP and Pure Data and Max to create wild and enticing musical instruments/effects.

Drop in any time throughout the day and try your hand at live coding music!

No experience needed, there will be clear examples to try out and we’ll be there to guide you into making music with your first lines of code. There will also be short demo performances scheduled throughout the day and a jam session in the evening – plus a stack of pizzas, and the PRSC bar will be open all day!

Bring a little modular rig and/or your laptop and headphones if you’re able. We will have a limited amount of machines available for use if you can’t bring anything

Everyone welcome!
