A new generation of LGBT+ people are out—to take on the system.

The Tories are ramping up their war on trans and non-binary people. Rishi Sunak blocking Scotland’s GRA reforms is a threat to trans rights across Britain—and part of a right wing backlash against LGBT+ people.

It’s not just in Britain. Whether it’s in Italy or Hungary, far right governments are attacking LGBT+ people under the guise of “gender ideology”.

Uganda’s government recently passed a vicious homophobic law, building on the legacy of the British Empire.

LGBT+ oppression is ingrained throughout society, but it hasn’t always existed. It’s rooted in the development of capitalism and the nuclear family, and bigoted ideas are pushed from the top of society.

In Britain, we’ve also seen resistance. The Tories blocking Scottish GRA reforms was met by a wave of resistance, with young and militant protests from London to the Scottish islands. And the vigils for Brianna Ghey brought thousands more onto the streets.

The movement has thrown up huge questions—whether it’s about the roots of oppression, identity politics, or strategies to win liberation.
