Stokes Croft local beat officers have brokered an apparently voluntary agreement with the six independent retailers of alcohol in Stokes Croft to ban sales of beers and cider with an alcoholic content of more than 6%. The idea is to banish drinks such as White Ace Cider, whose primary selling point is to deliver the most alcohol for the cheapest price, from the Croft.
Mike , Tony and Little Dave with white Ace and Banksy… Tony’s internal organs are disintegrating. Currently, he defecates through his stomach into a bag. Little Davew is currently in detox for the third time in the last twelve months…
This will obviously have a direct effect on the street drinkers… Local retailers have agreed to trial this scheme, but are concerned that the ban will do nothing more than divert trade to shops on Ashley Road and a little further afield. It is understood that the Police intend to extend the change in licensing conditions more widely with the shortest delay, so that local traders do not suffer loss of business to other shops just outside Stokes Croft. Interestingly, Dragon Stout with an ABV of 7.5% will not be included in the ban, as a concession to the West Indian community.
So did Tony give his consent to have the state of his internal organs discussed in public? Or is this just another example of using other peoples issues to promote your own self interest? I see very little but The PRSC as a chance for you to verbally defecate in public.
You really are the biggest load of self interested wankers I’ve ever come accross.
is there no limit to chris chalklys self promoting tactics. I notice he’s even hijacked the stop tesco’s on stokes croft campaign. Grrrrrrr.
I’m sympathetic to your wider criticism of Chalkley. But it’s still good that the police and local shopkeepers have pioneered this initiative. And I for one would not have known about it if Chalkley hadn’t announced it here.
the police have been announcing this and many other initiatives, and can be found on the police website, in “in your area, cabot and kingsdown” apparently.
stokes croft looks so much better with the plague of street drinkers that up until 6 months ago ruined the area.
“stokes croft looks so much better with the plague of street drinkers that up until 6 months ago ruined the area.”
Do you mean ‘without’? I can’t make much sense of your comment otherwise. If you do mean ‘without’, then I more or less agree with you. I don’t think that alcoholics ought to be driven off the streets. But I do strongly support the initiative to raise the price of strong drink. My concern is primarily for the health of the street drinkers. However, I would also like to be able, and for my children to be able, to walk into town without
(a) the threat of violence;
(b) having to listen to constant noisy swearing.

Who is? And why?
Richard Craven
thank you for pointing out my mistake, i do mean that the area is so much better without the presence of the street drinkers. My concern does not involve the health of the street drinkers as they are old enough to know better and no one puts a gun to their heads and says “drink this or else”. Like most people i want to walk my children down Stokes croft on a sunny day so they can see the various art works on the walls of the buildings without having to contend with the foul mouthed street drinkers, and their anti-social and unacceptable ways.
“Who is? And why?”
The PRSC are! Nothing more than a fashion or lifestyle choice. They are not an inclusive organisation who care about the wider community, but rather a bunch of lifestyle fascists who do what they do for their own self adulation.
Their recent anti Tesco campaign is a prime example. Whilst I don’t want to see a Tesco there, I’d rather that then the Cheap booze shops and more importantly the massage parlours. Why not camp and demonstrate outside these places? They won’t because the existence of these places make the PRSC think they are somewhere ‘edgy’ and ‘alternative’. However, what they are doing is supporting and excusing the abuse and near slavery of the women working in those places.
It’s a classic case of making excuses for the bad things in the world because they contribute to a predetermined sense of identity and set viewpiont. These are the same kind of people who ignore human rights abuses in places like Cuba and other ‘left wing’ dictatorships because they see themselves as belonging to a group where a ‘package’ of views is the status quo.
They also like the presence of homeless people for the same reason. It reminds me of pictures of dancing bears.
Furthermore, Why the ‘Peoples’ Republic of Stokes Croft? I live just off stokes Croft and no one ever asked me, but rather imposed their lifestyle and views on my neighbours and I.
Horrible people and the sooner they get bored of the trust fund life style or decide to work with their fathers in his multinational company the better.
Re: Scum’s remark. The question remains – did these guys in the photo give permission for private details of their health to be made public? If not can the caption be edited out? Yes – it adds impact, but you can’t splash stuff like that about without someone’s say so, even if you think they’ll never get round to reading this blog. It ain’t right. Would you confirm pls.
